This proceeding discusses the prevalence of suicide among adolescents in the United States. It includes several excerpts from suicide notes written by adolescents & children. Stress factors in this age group & 12 arguments for the increase in youth suicides are presented. The impact of sex-role stereotypes on youth is emphasized. Suggestions for amending youth suicide prevention programs to address issues related to sex-role stereotypes are included. (SC)
