In this condensed overview of suicide in Turkey, the author lists a number of findings; for example, overall the suicide rate is low but slowly rising; the urban rate is higher than the rural; there are 2 peak age groups,15-24 & 25-34; hanging is the method most commonly used. He also discusses the deterrents to suicide: Islam forbids suicide, society considers it taboo, the majority of people live in extended families, & friends tend to help each other when in trouble.
