This article compares 2 geographically very distant telephone crisis lines: one in Los Angeles, USA, & one in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. Findings include: similar philosophy & principles of crisis intervention; identical data documentation; differences in staff (lay volunteers in LA & semiprofessionals in LJ); differences in content of calls (more anonymous, shorter, & seriously suicidal in LA); for both the most frequent problems were marital or involved depression or alcohol.
