This article looks at the high rate of suicide for gay youths (an estimated 30-40% for gay boys & 20% for lesbians). Health care workers note that isolation & loneliness are 2 common themes for gay youths. The combination of being an adolescent struggling with homosexuality & isolated from family or community support can be deadly. There is a need for increased awareness & support for gay adolescents. A few programs aimed at easing the homosexual adolescents’s transition are discussed. (GW)
