The relationship of homicide rates to status integration is explored. Using suicide & homicide rates from the Vital Statistics of the United States for 1970, the suicide & homicide rates of white females of 12 age groups were correlated with Gibbs’ measure of status integration. The measure of status integration was inversely related to the suicide rate but wasn’t related to the homicide rate, conflicting with Lester’s 1973 finding. This study reported a correlation over age categories. (3 refs)
