A Vancouver doctor criticizes emergency room care given to attempted suicide patients. With the suicide toll up 35% in Edmonton over the first half of the year as compared to 1983, & the overall number of Alberta suicides up by 10 from the same time a year ago, it is an especially timely issue. Dr. Termansen recommends that there be psychiatric staff on duty 24 hrs a day in emergency wards to ensure that appropriate couselling & follow up care is available to recovering suicide attempters.
