This article investigates the relationship between pregnancy & attempted suicide. Case study analyses indicate that pregnant women who attempted suicide did not differ from non-pregnant women who attempted suicide on measures of depression, hopelessness, or suicidal intent. Three themes were noted in the pregnant women who attempted suicide: prior loss of children, potential loss of their lover, & the desire for an abortion. (2 refs) (SC)
