The authors examine the influence of television news stories on imitative behavior during 1968-1985, & with the aid of detailed rates tables, analyze the differential effect on a wide variety of demographic groups. They conclude, that for the teenager, in particular, the suicide story does seem to exert a very important effect. Discussion ensues on ways to reduce this harmful influence using the same principles as advertising. (GW)
