This article discusses a report of the Canadian Medical Protective Association regarding litigation arising out of an unpredicted suicide. The author, a psychiatrist, briefly reviews the case; deals with the difficulty involved in prediction where no strong evidence exists & the danger of committing patients to psychiatric hospitals out of fear of malpractice suits.
