Of 26,781 patients prescribed mianserin & 42,082 prescribed amytriptyline, none had a blood disorder severe enough to endanger life. If either drug causes leucopenia, the incidence is likely 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 100,000 patients. 56 of 246 survivors of attempted suicide by amytriptyline overdose required intensive care; 0 of 92 patients who overdosed with mianserin did. 4 deaths resulted from an overdose with amytriptyline alone compared with none from overdoses of mianserin alone.
