Describes 3 studies investigating knowledge of suicide. A questionnaire devised from Shneidman’s list of facts & myths was used to study the prevalence of these in a large sample, & to compare university to high school to non-students, males to females, & one geographic area to the next. A follow-up on presentation evaluated memory for such information. Results indicated a high level of knowledge in all subjects sampled, but that such knowledge can be forgotten after it is taught.
