46 suicidal schizophrenic patients are compared with a matched control group of nonsuicidal schizophrenics. In the former these variables were significantly predominant: (a) affective, not cognitive symptoms;(b) total number of life events; (c) affective losses in the last 6 months. Committed & frustrated suicides differed from attempted suicides in having a higher age, more frequent chronic course, & in use of violent methods. Attempted suicides had more life events & affective losses.
