This article clarifies the meaning of attempted & successful suicides in the intensive care unit & how they are viewed. It examines these questions: (1) what actions constitute the taking of one’s life, (2) what can be inferred about the knowing & willing part of this act & (3) what can be said about the morality of this act when it is knowing & willing. The rationality of suicide & suicide as a right are discussed.
