This article notes that an awareness of homosexual orientation often emerges in students during the high school years & a significant number of these adolescents experience unique stresses (e.g. family rejection, social isolation, harrassment, suicide risk) that the school system could recognize & address in an affirmative manner. It is suggested that the school social worker promote understanding & tolerance in such cases, & deal with policies that negatively affect homosexual students.
