A 1985 New York study confirms previous findings that the rate of suicide is higher in persons with chronic & life-threatening illnesses. In a population of 3828 individuals diagnosed as having AIDS, there were 12 suicides in men aged 20-59 years. The authors calculate a rate of suicide for this group that is 36.3 times that of same-aged men without this diagnosis, & 66.15 times that of the general population. Research sources & methodology are presented with other epidemiological findings.
