Dr. Trautman feels that no one treatment strategy will be effective for a group as diverse as the adolescent suicide attempter. Cognitive & behavioral approaches hold promise in meeting the needs of both brevity & activity demanded by adolescents & their parents. Resistance to treatment is common among adolescent attempters. The author calls for innovative approaches involving education, immediate focus on specific problems, home visits, & strategies to involve minority & lo income families.
