This study was carried out in the university hospital in Kandy, Sri Lanka. 128 patients were admitted following suicide attempts by self-poisoning, during the 3-month study period. A semi-structured questionnaire was used by the researcher to obtain demographic & clinical information, within 24 hours of admission. Clear differences in gender, type of poison used, & other sociodemographic & clinical features from western patients were found. (NBB)
