The author presents a model of the suicidal process developed from work in the natural sciences on the study of open systems which interact with complex events. The hyopothesis proposed is that two basic tendencies exist–a life tendency & a suicidal tendancy–which vary over time & with the input of life experiences. The paradoxical nature of suicide is explained using various behavioral equations. (NBB)
