Dr. Bagley’s study of native male suicide reveals higher rates of suicide than those reported by the Alta. Medical Examiner’s office. Using a broad category of “suicide & careless deaths”, the author examined files of males 15 to 34 for the years 1980-1984. This category included both suicides & cases of apparent suicide. A correlation analysis of rates for 26 reserves found correlations between suicide & careless death & northern latitude, low incomes, & isolation from urban areas. (NBB)
