In this study the author tested the hypothesis that the prevailing attitude toward suicide of the aged, both explicit & implicit, is permissive. A survey was conducted among 302 persons of various age groups & occupational backgrounds. The survey instrument contained 9 brief case histories of suicide & asked the participant to indicate whether he or she personally felt the suicide was acceptable. The hypothesis was supported. Several other unexpected findings are discussed. (NBB)
