A study of numerous children who attempt suicide or who are preoccupied with suicidal thoughts has lead the author to believe that the child is reacting to an unbearable situation from which he wants to escape. Most are triggered by a real or actual deprivation of love. Several case histories of suicidal children (under 13 years) admitted to be Bellevue Hospital are presented (NBB)
