The author discusses the epidemiology of physician suicide & suggests several strategies for intervention. These include early identification & treatment of the impaired physician, a review of selection methods for admission to medical school; a mandatory program about professional stress included within the curriculum, active postvention programs, & a method developed to assist physicians who lose a patient to suicide in working through this type of crisis.
