The author describes the personality type of suicide-attempting youths in Kamakura & illustrates the interaction of dependency, self-inflation, & insecurity in the development of suicidal behaviors. The structure of families producing suicide attempters is also examined. The similarity between the “ideal” personality type of Japanese youths & that of suicidal Japanese youths is discussed. (NBB)
