Suicide Prevention in Educational Settings: After a Suicide Attempt

The focus is on: dealing sensitively with returning attempters & their families, answering classmates’ & teachers’ questions & resolving such issues as notification of staff, training in crisis identification/intervention, policy for handling attempters, & student concerns (eg. Contagion effect). Enclosed are 2 pamphlets: a mother’s account of how a funeral director handled her son’s suicide & “suicide facts for teens” (statistics, facts & myths, warning signs & advice on intervention). (KM)
