Risk Factors for Suicide Among Patients With Schizophrenia
Allebeck P~~et al
Compared 32 schizophrenics who suicided during an 11-yr follow-up with 64 schizophrenics who did not. Previous history of attempts was most strongly related to suicide. In females we found an increased risk among unmarried, divorced or widowed, & living alone. In males a history of alcohol abuse increased the risk. Distribution of age & sex & a history of depressive episodes were not associated with increased risk. Suicidal acts among schizophrenics are impulsive & difficult to predict.
