Studied 575 admitted to the inpatient service of a mental health centre due to depressive &/or suicidal states. Findings include: (a) 11% utilized centre services; 59% of these benefitted; (b) 20% stated they were unaware of the centre; (c) 8% said that calling the centre would be inappropriate because a suicide attempt was not imminent & (d) 26% indicated an inclination to call the centre in the event of subsequent difficulties. Discusses what constitutes valid functions of the centre.
