A study of the data from the continental states of the USA showed that both suicide and homicide rates were related to the divorce rates and that suicide rates were related to migration rates. These associations remained even when controls were introduced for other sociodemographic variables, such as the proportion of blacks and old persons in each state and the mediam family income in each state.
