Alvarado states that volunteers can contribute to the prevention of youth suicide by building public awareness of the problem & by taking action when specific problems are indentified. ACTION volunteer programs are described, & special mention is made of older volunteers & their success with emotionally disturbed youths. The author feels community volunteers can have the same success in reducing youth suicide as they had fighting drugs, finding missing children & countering illiteracy. (NBB)
