Hendin examines current trends in adolescent suicide rates that are significant for contemporary suicide prevention. Significant findings include–increasing level of substance abuse with increasing rates of suicide; an increase in rates for those 20-24 as well as those 15-19; new relationships between violence & suicide; increased stress from competition due to a higher percentage of those 15-24 in the general population, & an increase in youth suicide in every socioeconomic segment of society.
