The treatment of suicidal behavior in adolescents is complex. There are 2 crucial stages; the first is recognition of behavior that is acutely suicidal; the second is the immediate treatment of the condition underlying this behavior, which commonly is a state of depression (p.143). Dr. Meeks discusses the management of suicidal adolescents, stressing the importance of early intervention & treatment. (NBB)
