Farberow compares youth suicide rates among 10 countries–Canada, USA, England, France, Austria, West Germany, Finland, Sweden, Japan, & Australia. Completed suicide rates for the general population & for those aged 15-24 are examined for each country. In North America, the youth group victims have shown an increase of roughly twice that of the general population (largest increase in young males). Mental disorders, depression, & a sense of hopelessness were often present at the time of suicide.
