Suicides Among 523 Persons in a Swedish County With and Without Contact With Psychiatric Care

Among 523 (350 males, 173 females) suicides in 1977-84,subjects who had had contact with psychiatric care (PC) (63%) were compared with those who had never had such contact (NPC) (37%), according to sex ratios, main suicide methods, % of widow(er)s & divorce, highest mean suicide rates per 100,000, % of depressive syndromes, relevant somatic disease & expression of serious suicidal intent. Amount of psychiatric contact in the PC is given. Importance among personnel & relatives is underlined.
