In this paper, suicide trends among elderly Finnish population were examined for the years 1960-79. Suicide was found to be more common in the elderly than in the population aged 15-64 years. Between 1960-79 suicide rates among the elderly remained unchanged. Peaks were not found to coincide with economic recession. On the other hand, rates among the population aged 15-64 years increased. The author proposes that more international comparisons be undertaken.
