Statistics comparing suicide characteristics of ethnic groups in the US are presented with a primary focus on African Americans (AA). Higher attempt rates, higher rates of completed suicides under 35 years, increasing rates for AA females, and higher rates in lower socioeconomic strata are indicated. Results suggest young AA’s feel pressure to succeed but feel there is little support to do so. Suggestions for non-AA caregivers working with high risk AA’s are also included.
