Discusses experimental observations to substantiate the view that some antidepressant drugs (ADDs), which preferentially enhance the drive & counteract psychomotor retardation in depressed patients, may promote suicidal tendencies. Reasons are linked to factors such as the effects of ADDs on serotoninergic function, & noradrenaline & 5-hydroxytryptamine uptake.
