The seasonal variation in suicides was examined using data from the death certificates of the 2,045 people who committed suicide in Northern Finland during the period 1961-1978. Suicides were usually most common in summer and least common in winter, but there was a secondary rise in suicides in autumn in the age-group 15-24 years. The seasonal pattern in suicides did not markedly differ from that prevailing in the country as a whole.
