The author has assembled a collection of twelve essays written by middle-aged, middle-class white American women that demonstrate the influence of a male-dominated culture upon its female members. The essays are about illness (physical and emotional), suicide, relationships (with men, strangers, and cats), motherhood, and writing. A selected annotated bibliography listing works in feminist theory is included.
