This chapter aims to refocus physician concern from mastery of the forensic pelvic exam to providing needed medical care to the victim & to other family members. An extended doctor-patient relationship can allay intense anxiety in the child; to allow the child to redefine the event as a treatable physical injury; to treat sequelae in the victim, including venereal disease, pregnancy, & promiscuity; & to treat physical problems identified in the victim or other family members.
