This 2-part descriptive study of attempted suicide by individuals over the age of 15 in Haifa showed: 1) attempted suicide rates were 50% higher than officially reported; 2) a high-risk group was women under 29 years, oriental origin with only elementary education, living in lower class areas, with mental, family, environmental & social problems; 3) 90% were seen by a psychiatrist; 4) rate of reporting is highest in the emergency room; 5) community nurses knew of more cases than were reported.
