This review a) describes the problem of youth suicide, including the extent of the problem & risk factors specific to youth; b) examines the 4 major reasons for developing school based suicide prevention programs; c) analyzes the recommended components of school focused suicide prevention efforts; d) reviews the results of evaluation studies conducted on school based suicide prevention programs & e) recommends future directions for further work in this field.
