This chapter reviews the social & psychiatric factors thought to be associated with suicide in schizophrenic patients. Factors discussed include age, sex, marital status, when suicide occurs, previous attempts, depression, stress, severity of illness, adequacy of treatment, medication, hallucinations & delusions, social isolation, why they commit suicide, post-discharge, & prediction of suicide. Research into long-term intervention with schizophrenics who are at risk is called for. 85 Ref. (LH)
