This anecdotal case history emphasizes the detrimental effects that unemployment can have on the individual. In addition to lack of money, the psychological effects include loss of self esteem, feelings of inferiority & lowering of morale. The long-term unemployed are said to become more prone to crisis which produces emergency health care problems & chronic illness. (LH)
