This article presents an overview of the current stage of research at the Central Institute of Mental Health, Mannheim, West Germany, along with some historical background. Model-based projects focusing on schizophrenia, alcoholism, & neurotic, child psychiatric & psychogeriatric syndrome patterns will enable description & analysis of relations between indicators or causal factors, as well as the symptomatology of illness. 90 Refs.
