This study was undertaken to find out whether there is a relationship between depression & distortions in the cognitive process of memory. A sample of 13 depressed & 13 nondepressed clients at a community-based counselling centre were given negative & positive words for personal descriptiveness & rated themselves for their performance of a task. 5 minutes later they were asked to recall the words & feedback. Depressed clients recalled more negative words.
