This study compared the relative effectiveness of 2 brief inpatient treatments for women admitted to the psychiatric unit of a general hospital for a suicide attempt. Within 48 hours from admission, patients were randomly assigned to systematic desensitization or interpersonal skill training conditions. No significant difference between conditions was found on suicidal behavior at any period, although noted trends continued.
