The Risks of Imprisonment Suicide Attempts in Jails and Prison: A Clinical Investigation (Micro HV 6546 H395 1986)

This study examined the clinical & demographic characteristics of 62 male prisoners hospitalized because of suicidal behavior. Data included lethality ratings, demographic information, & the results of the BPRS, PTASS, BDI, & BHS tests. Results indicated the existence of trends related to lethality & existence of certain situational factors that appear to precipitate attempts. The distinction between the serious & non-serious attempter is not tenable for suicidal behavior among the incarcerated.
