3 alcohol-dependent homosexual men with suicidal ideation & behavior consciously attempted to contract AIDS as a means of committing suicide. The authors briefly examine the interrelationships among alcohol & substance abuse, homosexuality, suicidal behavior & AIDS. Implications for substance abuse treatment settings are noted. Early diagnosis & treatment of depression & substance abuse may prevent the spread of AIDS & reduce hidden suicide potential. 13 Refs. (LH)
