The author describes adolescent depression & its biological underpinnings, deprivation syndromes, manic-depressive illness, as well as the concept of affective violence in organic affective syndromes & episodic dyscontrol syndromes. These disorders call for multimodal treatment in which appropriate medication facilitates psychosocial intervention. (LH)
