The resurgence of research interest in suicidal behaviour observed in the past decade has yielded disappointing results. The lack of effective research can be attributed to methodological problems that relate to specified inadequacies in the data base. It is proposed that one regional research-oriented registry be established. The proposal outlines such key considerations as achieving comprehensive & complete reporting, confidentiality, interdisciplinary cooperation,& research arrangements.
