Presents detailed findings of a 5-year follow-up study of suicide attempters in Belgium. Findings indicate that half of the male attempters died of various causes in the follow-up period; 6.5% of patients engaged in self-destructive behavior that shortened their life; 34 survivors reported improved life circumstances; & medical & psychiatric care did not appear to prevent subsequent self-destructive behavior. 4 refs.
